Volunteer Service Opportunities

Members of WAV provide a wide variety of volunteer services at SickKids.  There is a diverse selection of volunteer opportunities including:

  • 5Fifty5 ShopWork in the shop as a salesperson, stocker, merchandiser, buyer, sewer or knitter. 
  • Wellness Wagon Family Cart: Experience the joy of direct patient interactions by bringing the "Wellness Wagon" cart to outpatient clinics. The cart provides small toys and engaging activities to help distract and comfort the children during their clinic appointment. Shifts available daily Monday - Friday.
  • Baby Gift BagsAssemble and distribute gift bags for new teen mothers and their babies through the hospital’s Young Families Program.
  • Bravery BeadsDeliver Bravery Beads to inpatient units and other storage areas in the hospital using the Bravery Bead Cart (flexible hours). 
  • Clinic 9: Spend time with patients and siblings while providing play-based activities as well as caregiver relief. 
  • Family Centre: Work with staff to run the book circulation desk, read to children at story time, help with craft activities and take the mobile book cart to inpatient units. 
  • Haematology/Oncology Outpatient ClinicSpend time with patients and siblings while providing play-based activities as well as caregiver relief. 
  • Main Information DeskProvide information and directions to families and visitors to SickKids in a welcoming way. 
  • Orthopaedic ClinicAssist the clinic staff by keeping families informed of wait times and by helping children and families pass the time by talking and playing with children. 
  • PlayParkWork with Registered Childhood Educators to provide siblings of inpatients and clinic patients a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Poster Express and DecalsTake the Poster Express and Decal cart to inpatient units to exchange posters and decorate rooms with decals (flexible hours).
  • Satellite Anaesthesia Room "Cujo's Room" : Volunteers are the liaison between families whose children are having procedures and the Oncology 8D staff. This service operates year-round and volunteers commit to a three to five-hour shift.
  • Surgical Waiting RoomVolunteers are the liaison between families whose children are having surgery and Peri-Operative Care Unit staff. The Surgical Waiting Room operates year-round and volunteers commit to a five-hour shift either in the morning or afternoon.
